John Akins and David Bevans set out to create a visually stunning shopping and learning space that is staffed with some of the most knowledgeable wine, beer and spirits experts in Arkansas. Legacy Wine and Spirits can help find whatever you need with certified cicerones and a sommelier on staff. There is no other liquor store in Arkansas like Legacy.
Meet the Legacy Team
John Akins and David Bevans, Owners and Founders
After working together for eight years, John Akins and David Bevans wanted to take on a new project. That project just happened to be Legacy Wine and Spirits. They have a genuine interest in the industry and set out to do something different with their store. When they're not busy at Legacy, John and David are traveling and entertaining friends.
Jimmy Hamilton, General Manager and Sommelier
Jimmy entered wine retail nine years ago, after honing his hospitality skills during stints with small independent restaurants. This retail experience has given him the opportunity to pursue professional certifications, wine travel, and wine education.
Professional certifications and associations include Certified Sommelier/Court of Master Sommeliers, Advanced Level 3 Award/Wine and Spirit Education Trust, London (member), Certified Specialist of Wine/Society of Wine Educators (member), GuildSomm (member) and the Arkansas Bartenders’ Guild.
Extensive travels to the world’s fine wine regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Chablis, Alsace, the Loire and Rhone Valleys , Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Central Coast, Willamette Valley, Washington State, and the Niagara Peninsula have given Jimmy a perspective vital to providing the highest level of customer service.
Besides offering educational opportunities for customers and staff, in-store and out, Jimmy’s passion to promote the highest standards in local wine service had him co-coordinate the first ever Court of Master Sommeliers’ sponsored Intro Course and Exam in Arkansas in 2015, with plans for more higher certifications to be available locally for employees at all levels of hospitality here in Arkansas.
Jimmy is excited to be part of the opening crew of Legacy. He is here to help all customers find exactly what they need.
Jake Dell, Cicerone
Jake began his professional career in alcohol retail sales in 2007. Quickly taking a liking to craft breweries and small batch whisky, Jake dove straight into the world of handcrafted beers and single malt Scotches. Working under the tutelage of numerous sommeliers, home-brewers and all sorts of experts in alcohol sales and production, he honed his craft over the next 8 years specializing in all things distilled, fermented and brewed.
Outside of work, Jake has a passion for music. You can often find him singing and playing guitar at various restaurants and bars around central Arkansas on the nights he's not tasting new beers and helping folks pick the perfect growler or 6-pack.
Jake is a Certified Cicerone through the Cicerone Certification Program.
Crystal Winkler, Bookkeeper
Crystal keeps our books in check at Legacy Wine and Spirits. She keeps track of all of the money, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Crystal has known John since he was born — because she's his sister. When she's not keeping track of all of the books at Legacy, you can find her hunting, swimming or watching football. She likes all sorts of moscato wines and coconut rums
Hunter Crenshaw, Public Relations and Art Director
After seeing his creativity and talent on display while working as an independent graphic designer, owners John and David immediately sought out to enlist Hunter to the Legacy team. Hunter is in charge of all social media, advertising and marketing for Legacy Wine and Spirits. He went to Columbia College Chicago, where he got his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography. In his free time he loves working on his own artwork and event planning.
